Reflections of Semester 1 and looking forward to a fruitful Semester 2...

Dear pupils,

It seems like only yesterday when I first saw all of you. After 5 months, all of you have grown to be more independent. I am very proud of you. Take some time to reflect on your journey in primary school. As this is your 1st year in Hong Wen, I would like you to share some of your favourite moments in class.

Here are some questions for you to think about and share with your classmates and I.
1) What is it that makes you look forward to come to school every day?
2) Where is your favourite place in school?
3) Who are your best friends?

Do remember to visit this blog and post your comments when you are online. I would love to hear from all of you soon.

I am going to miss all of you.

See you when school reopens on 29th June 2009.
Here is a preview of the exciting activities lined up for you in Semester 2.

1) Learning Journey to the Singapore Zoo on 31st July 2009 from 7.30am - 12.35pm.
***Please ask your parents if they would like to be a parent volunteer and come along with us on the learning journey. There is only 3 vacancies.
2)Lower Primary Sports for Primary 1 and 2 pupils in August.
3)Teachers' Day Celebration on 31st August 2009.
4)Children's Day Celebration on 30th September 2009.

Love,

Our P1 Activity Day 2009

Listening attentively to instructions =)

"Hmmmmm.....which one to choose?"

Good team effort!
"Are you reading the magazine instead of helping us to do the collage?"

On Thursday, 28th May 2009, we had our first P1 Activity Day. We were very excited as there will be no lessons but interesting games and activities for us. After the story-telling competition in the hall, we went back to class. Mdm Irni briefed us and reminded us to put on our best behaviour. She also told us to have fun. A parent volunteer, Aunty Germaine brought us to our stations as Mdm Irni was a station facilitator at Station 4.

First, we went to 1P classroom for 'Fishing time'! We had a lot of fun as we had to answer the Math questions and 'fished out' the correct answers. Then, we had a fantastic time playing at the multi purpose hall (MPH). After recess, the activities continued and we went to 1C classroom for a 'Nosey time'! We had to smell and guess. Following that, we went on to 1H classroom for an activity on ordinal numbers. Last but not least, we went back to 1K classroom for the last activity which was to do a collage on the map of Singapore.

During the last period, Mdm Irni gave us our homework for the June holidays and reminded us to read as often as we can and to remember to visit this blog too. We had a wonderful and enjoyable time.

Making a rocket balloon

We will be making our rocket balloons tomorrow. Mdm Irni went through the steps with us just now. Here are the steps.

1)Number 1 will pump air into the balloon and twist the mouthpiece.
2)Number 2 will take a peg and secure the mouthpiece with a wooden peg.
3)Number 3 is to use felt pens to paint the features of a rocket ship on both sides of the balloon.
4) Number 4 will take a piece of string and put it through the drinking straw.
5) Number 1 will place a drinking straw along the length of the balloon and attach it with some masking tape.
6) Number 2 and Number 3 will stand at each side of the class and hold the string tightly. The rocket balloon should be with Number 2.
7) When all the groups have set up their ‘Rockets’, all of you are to count down to zero.
8) At zero, Number 4 will release the pegs and let the ‘Rockets’ fly.
9) The first rocket to reach Number 3 will be the champion.

We are very excited and we are looking foward to our 'Rocket balloon' activity tomorrow.

Yours sincerely,
Pupils from 1 Kindness

A tribute to all mummies....

Dear pupils,

It is Mother's Day tomorrow, 10th May 2009. Hope you have given the beautiful handmade cards to your mothers. I am sure your mother will love the card as it is specially made by you. A big thank you to your Art teacher, Ms Joycelyn Tan for initiating the idea.

As Mother's day is around the corner, do take some time to reflect what your mother have done for you. Do take some time to leave some comments and tell me about your wonderful mummy. I would love to know more about her.

However, do remember that you should not be nice to your mother only on Mother's Day. Always tell your mother how much you love her and thank her for all the love, care, concern and sacrifices that she has made for you.

To all the mothers, grandmothers and aunties of the pupils in 1 Kindness, I wish you a very happy Mother's Day.

Cheers
Mdm Irni
